Privacy Policy
Last Updated: March 6, 2026
1. Introduction
Welcome to Excited Gem. Your privacy is critically important to us. This Privacy Policy
describes how Excited Gem ("the Extension") handles data when you use our browser extension and its
associated services.
Excited Gem is a unified productivity tool designed to manage tabs, bookmarks, and media playback. By
design, we prioritize local data processing to ensure your browsing habits remain private.
2. Data Collection and Usage
Excited Gem operates primarily as a Local-First extension. We do not maintain any
central servers that collect your browsing history, personal files, or identity information.
- Local Storage: All extension settings, categorized bookmarks, and tab session data
are stored locally in your browser using
chrome.storage.local.
- No External Transmission: We do not sell, trade, or transmit your personal data to
any third-party servers, except when explicitly initiated by you (e.g., syncing to your own Google
Drive).
3. Permissions Disclosure
To provide its core functionality, Excited Gem requires specific permissions. Here is exactly how we use
them:
host_permissions (youtube.com/watch*, youtube.com/shorts/*)
Used to monitor YouTube playback state (title, progress, play/pause) so you can control media directly
from the extension sidebar. This access is strictly limited to YouTube video and shorts pages.
bookmarks
Required to allow you to organize, categorize, and move your bookmarks into specialized groups within
the extension interface.
tabs / tabGroups
Allows the extension to display your open tabs in the sidebar for easy navigation and group management.
unlimitedStorage
Necessary to ensure that large bookmark collections and complex session histories are saved without
being truncated by default browser storage limits.
identity / oauth2
Used exclusively to allow you to back up your extension data to your personal Google Drive (App
Data folder). The extension never sees your Google account password.
4. Third-Party Services
Excited Gem interacts with the following third-party services:
- YouTube API: Used to fetch high-quality video metadata (such as duration and
official titles) for better organization in your dashboard. This interaction is subject to YouTube's
Terms of Service and Google's Privacy Policy.
- Google Drive: If you enable "Sync," data is uploaded to your private Google Drive
account. We do not have access to any files in your Drive except those created by this extension.
5. Data Security
We use industry-standard browser security implementations to protect your data. Since your data is stored
locally, its security also depends on the security of your device and browser.
6. Changes to This Policy
We may update our Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any changes by posting the new
Privacy Policy on this page and updating the "Last Updated" date at the top.
